It bugs me when people look for handouts. You're not going to find a "free" host that supports both PHP and MySQL without expecting something back. Whether its putting ads on your site or you putting your hand in your pocket and paying for the service. It costs money to run a hosting business. They aren't running these things as a tax shelter. There are plenty of reasonably priced hosts that are advertised on PHPB. Don't tell me you can't afford six or seven dollars a month for hosting. I forgot where I found a host that offers hosting for $5 to $8 a month but if I run in to it again I'll post it. But for Petes sakes enough with the "Where can I find free hosting!?" plea's.

I have a free host....its called localhost 😉

and for publishing one could use www.greatnet.de its around $4 per month...site is in german though...

I have one too. 😃 But most people don't have their own server like you and I.

Anyone who's got a computer has the postential to have a local webserver (and if they're developing dyamic sites, really should). All that needs to be done is install three programs to get started; database (Mysql),programming language (PHP), webserver (apache).

I would never set up a web server on my main machine. I have a framework I built that allows me to maintain two, synced, databases and two, synced, sites. I use a text file to tell tell the cron job what, if anything, to move from development to live every night. Then my testing happens on the same server as my live work so I don't have any stupid conlficts showing up at go live.

Drawmack: The supid little conflicts can usually be sorted out pretty quickly. With regards to your method, sounds really nice, it's a shame I don't have access to the host my site is on in that way and I'm sure many people are the same.
