mutiple forms and validation of such

Hello all,
I am attempting to use PHP to validate multiple forms as I move along my join process. Now here is where I trip up every time!!
I CANNOT get thru to my brain how to move to the next form if the previous form validated correctly...............
Right now I have my first form that submits to a validating script. That script then validates all the things I have asked for, and I understand how to make the first form reappear if they did something wrong...but how do I force it to then move forward if they filled it all out correctly, seeing that submit button only goes to the validating script???
I have checked around the net, and of course there are a 1001+ ways to do everything, but I just cannot get that logic under my belt!! Can anyone please explain it to me?? I can submit some of my code if that would help, just let me know.

You are right, there is 1001+ ways to do it. Its a matter of finding one that will work for you...

| - fail validation - reshow form (works)
|- validation success - show new form

The trick is how are you determining if the validation is successful? How do you know which form to go to next? Do you want to use a header() redirect? Or do you just want to print out the new form (instead of the old one)?

These are things you have to answer. I can tell you how I do it, but my way may not fit with what you're doing (no need to confuse you even more - unless you really want to see it).

OK, here is what I want to do...

| if errors, redisplay form1 with fields populated
|

if no errors, display form2

I guess what is tripping me up is that I am used to using submit to submit TO A NEW PAGE, however now, I am submitting to a validation script, which is breaking the line of site for me, and throwing me off balance.

I would prefer just to open up the new form, just like the submitting to a new page would do.

Am I off balance here?? This seems to me to be a simple step to do, however, I have a brain block. 😕

I'd recommend taking a step back and looking at how you display your forms. If you modularize your forms, you (in theory) could display them at any time. If you can get this far, then its a matter of tossing an if statement in there to check if the validation was successful or not and show the proper form.

As you submit form 1, you need to validate it first before going to form 2. You need to wire your code so you can dynamically call form 1 or form 2 whenever you like and this will help you write code to go to form 1 again or forward to form 2.
