Form and hidden fields

Hi,
:o I hate ask this, but...

When the user submit wrong data I've to go back to the form.
This form now is always cleaned.

After some try, I look the problem are some hidden fields that I fill client-side when the user do something (an "onchange" on a combobox...).
If I remove this fields the form is refilled.

Is there a workaround to avoid this? Any header for the cache?

ps: is a post, fields are only text, hidden and select type.

is the validation server-side? take the post vars from the form, and if there is an error then pass the vars back to the form for re-display

but I think this not so usefull. 🙁

First, this means to convince the user to not use the "back" button of the browser (or the fine backspace button...).
Second, this means even I've to resend the data => much time of a simple history.back()...

I think what you are finding is a function of how the browser works. I wouldn't count on the window.back() JavaScript function to do what you wish (especially if your page gets stuck in a frame or something).

no back button required - the user posts the form (by clicking submit) then the form is redisplayed with the errors marked and the data in the fields from the post

you only need to do back if you show the errors seperate to the form

but I wonder if there is a way to leave the form filled when the user push the back button (as this happens in the 95% of form I use...), without to change other page than the form's page.

Maybe there isn't...

What you're saying is when they hit the back button, you want them to have the info there. Well, once the page is parsed and saved into your history I believe your browser does this automatically. I tested with this forum in this reply and it saved this paragraph. I don't believe there was anything special in the page saving this text, but the browser saving the page in history.

btw, it would be easier to go with what Weekender says so that the person doesn't even have to hit the back-button.

...hmm I've to do some other test.

The history of browser does this automatically only if I don't get any value from the popup window: if I fill all the field in the form, but not the onchange value, I submit and I go back... all is ok.

If I change the value with the onchange, when I go back the form is clean.

But this happens only with .php file. I've saved all, made some dummy other page, and tried all in local without any server. All works fine.

I need really to do some other test...

Ok, after a night of test,
I know that it don't works if the form is php generated.

The same, statically saved as html, works fine, even through the server.
So I guess is the default cache header that PHP send to the browser.

Anyone know what header cache I can use to avoid all this?
