Can someone help me out format the date?

I have a blog, I'm trying to setup and have a field called timestamp, with the type 'timestamp'

I want the output to be as follows:

01.14.04

Month.Day.Year

I think I need to use a functions.php and include in my page, but not sure how...

Well, if you're storing it as a MySQL type timestamp(different from regular timestamps), you should use MySQL's date_format to format it for you when selecting it.

The alternative to this, and an extra step, is to cast it as unixtimestamp when selecting it and use php's [man]date[/man] function to format it.

if you have a string like:

$date = '12th January 2003'; // or  '12.01.2003'

you could use strtotime() to transform it to a timestamp

I'm using mySQL timestamp, so I should use the date_format, but can't figure out how to get the numbers, 01.16.04
