long scripts crashing apache server on windows

I have a long php script - it gets data(screen scraping) of another website. After about 2 minutes of execution it ends up crashing apache server.

other smaller scripts work fine...

I have increased the timeout and everything - maybe memory utilization problem?

I have PHP Version 4.3.3...Apache 1.3.27

Do we generally write scripts when we are writing such a long one ? what are the other options ?

Have you considered running IIS instead of Apache?
If you're using a NT system that is...

Since IIS is a "part" of NT, I guess it should run better then Apache on Windows.

However running it with IIS is not a possiblily...as it will be hosted on an apache server ultimately.

My question again is - when you have a long php script - its like i have changed the timeout to about 10 minutes - as it crawls the complete website ! So in such cases should you like run it in console. Any suggestions on what best practises you use for long scripts.
