Hello all again.

I have a script that searches a game database for a game title. For instance, a user searches for "mario" and titles that have mario in it will come up.

select gametitle from gamedata where gametitle like '%search_term%' for example.

here's my question. what if a user types in a title like madden 2004 but the game title is really madden nfl 2004. no results are going to come up. is there a way to impliment a 'similar results' result page? i'm guessing it would have to break down every search word entered and run queries on it, correct? thanks in advance for any help.

If you want to assume that they can spell each word correctly you could just replace spaces with %s. If you're not so sure about their spelling capabilities then you're going to have to build a fuzzy search. If this is the case I could give you some ideas on how you might go about it but it is quite a lot of work (especially to get it running as quick as without the fuzzyness)

You might try playing with SOUNDEX() which is a MySQL function. Its quick and easy, but may not yeild the results you're looking for...
