Automatic email

hi have been learning php and have created a register page, this page works fine but i need it to send an email to people when the register, i have the code which works fine but i cant connect to a mail server

what would the settings for the php.ini file be??

can i use any old mail server ie. hotmail or my uni mail??

if not what would i need to use??

You need an SMTP server to send mails, if you're running the script on your own computer, set up a SMTP server.
If the script is run elsewhere, check if the webspace provider has a SMTP server you can use.
