Usertracking ??

Hi,

I try to code a usertracking-system. I already read the article at: http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/tim20001211.php3

It describes exactly the way, I´ve started with, too. And it works. My problem is: Let´s say I´ll track the sites of 20 clients. Each site has 1000 visitors each day, and every visitor visits 30 tracked sites. That will be........600.000 clicks and additional information each day, I´ve got to store in the DB.

So, the storage is not the problem, but the analysis!!

It takes terribly long to figure out for example the top 20 of the used navigation-paths.
Does anyone know, how to handle sth. like that? 😕

This query works for me. My visitors_table has about 150 000 rows and the script execute in < 2 sec.

$sql = "SELECT path_name, COUNT(id) AS hits_counted FROM visitors_table GROUP BY path_name ORDER BY hits_counted  DESC LIMIT 20"

ok so far, I´ve tried and it works for me too. But an additional problem ist, that I want to show every step of that top 20 paths....

You have to give the resources, before you can use them!

If you want to execute tough sql commands on you server, there is 2 basic ways to do that:

#1: The hardware shall match the softwares needs!
#2: Optimized codes... Often with a little notice in that area, make you code mutch smaller and faster...

What you want is a system there relly rape you poor mysql!

@ truti,
1. the Server is ok for that: 2GHz Pentium4 CPU, 1gb ram.
2. If not mysql, what will solve my problem? What DB systems are big companies like ebay, amazon.......working with ?? I´ve heard, they use php and mysql, too

Big airports are using Oracle, it's the fastest databases (I think)... Oracle products are not freeware ;-) or even cheep..... They are damn expensiv!

Manny danish banks are using some kind of IBM SRS32 systems (manny million software) and i know that Lotus have made some quite fast database software....

If you was you I would stick to Oracle's software, I just don't know how you sould get et legally... illegal software on servers are crap!

(don't ask about how to integrade php with oracle, I don't know any thing about it.... Just that Oracle are using SQL too).

If you mean all the fields in a row
