[Resolved] htmlentities & htmlspecialchars not working

I need to convert normal text on my webpage to their numbered entity.
For example the word 'dog' will become 'dog'.

Please help.

That's not what either of those functions do. They do it for certain characters. This would need to be custom written.

I've created this function to replace the chars I need - however it doesn't work. Anyone got any ideas?

You might want to look at the strtr http://www.php.net/strtr function.

You might also want to rethink why you need such a translation. If it has anything to do with encoding and stuff then you might be on the wrong track. If you are working with url's then you might look ar urlencode.

And please don't post such long lines. It really screws up the display.

oops. simple mistake.

fixed it by adding $text = str_replace...

sorry fo the long lines - i thought the forum would wrap it!!
