how to post $amount from a filed to PHP

Hello to all,

I am defenately a beginner at this and need some help.
Hopefully I'm in the right place.
I have a page set up for customers to choose items and as they do that there is a TOTAL AMOUNT field that collects the amount they will pay.

I am trying to set up an Ecommerce account and I need to know how to tell the html page to pass the "total amount|" to the PHP script when the CHECK OUT button is pressed.

I call the field " total " and I am using Frontpage.

If anyone can help I will really appreciate it.

$_POST array contains an entry for each field posted in the form.
