[Resolved] [Resolved] why do I have to be online

I've just setup my win me pc to have an apache 2 server with php 4 and mysql db. This is the first time I have done this and all seems well but when I start mysql it needs to connect to the internet. When I let it it says:

Welcome to mysql monitor

Your mysql connection id is 1 to server version 4.0.17

I don't understand why I still need to connect to the web when all is local. Help!!

Because the apps communicate with the web and won't work otherwise.

Huh, they do not require an internet connection, they can run on localhost just fine.

When you say "needs to connect to the internet" what do you mean? Is that a mysql message or is it your firewall telling you that. If it is ur firewall, thats normal (it doesnt actually mean u have to be online).

It starts up the dialer but if I cancel it seems to work without connection so I think thats ok for now. Thanks for all your input and time.

Offline = working with local cache
Online and accessing localhost = not needing to dial out
Online and accessing another machine = need to dial out

If you change your dial up settings to not dial all the time, bypassing it for local addresses - it won't come up.

Confused me the first time as well....
