How to - echo only the file extension?

I have a URL:

I need to get the extension,
how would I say, echo everything after "." the the "zip" or "jpeg" part?

Have a look at [man]parse_url[/man] and/or [man]strstr[/man].

Oh yes, that's the one I was thinking of. There's just so many string-handling functions I didn't bother checking the manual before I posted.
