Need help with template script.

What I am trying to do, but I guess I am to new at PHP. I have also tried every template system out there to no luck.

1. Have a master index.php

2. Have a master template “say template_1.html

3. The index.php will call call template_1.html, which will be the basic layout of the web site, minus the center content area.

4. Now have a folder named content, which includes html content pages. (i.e. main.html, about.html, contact.html, ect) which is called by the template_1.html page.

Now when somebody comes to web site domain.com/index.php it will call the template & the center content area “main.html content”

Now lets say he selects about us link “thedomain.com/index.php?page=about” that would call the about us information an replace the center main information.

I hope this make sense and somebody can help me solve this problem or know of a system that does this…
