Cookies..(easy?)

Well guys,

I have asked this before, and have never gotten any responses, nothing at all really...

Here are my problems.

First, the cookie will not be set in the beginning...If I set the cookie, it will act like its not there, but then if I reload the cache of all things, it shows up. But if I change my ie and mozilla setting to check for new page each time, it will show up automatically...

Not only that, but if I update the file any other way the changes show fine. It's not like the cache isn't working or anything..

Well, someone suggested this MAY be my server, so I contacted them(haven't got a response yet)

Even if it is, I figure you guys can help me with this problem..I set it like this

setcookie("loggedin", $user, time()+24*3600*99999999);

Every time I set this, if I exit the browser, it will automatically delete it...is there any way I can set a cookie that will stay, kinda like the VBulletin and all that..???

incidentally, the PHP Manual states:

Cookies will not become visible until the next loading of a page that the cookie should be visible for. To test if a cookie was successfully set, check for the cookie on a next loading page before the cookie expires.

Could that effect be what you referred to?

I am happy that I am atleast getting an answer 🙂

Sessions..I thought they were only for one browser session? I am making a user login, and cannot make it stay there forever..Well, until the user logs out, which I know how to do..

Edit: I don't understand the whole next page loading, but I am guessing a refresh is what they mean. I have to reload the whole cache, and delete it then reload. Is there a way to delete someones cache from php, then reload the page for them?

i beleive u can assign how long till a session expires! tho i cant remember exactly

hmm... another potential problem could be with your timeout.
It exceeds 2³² seconds since the Unix epoch, so some sort of overflow is done.

I changed it to 999, and still the same problem...what would you suggest for a timeout? Like how long?(As long as possible, because I wish it could be forever)

changing the timeout may or may not solve your problem.

still, a suitable timeout might be
time() + 24 * 3600

Actually, it fixed the problem of the cookie dissapearing after each exit of the browser, change it to 999...how long is the one you just showed me?

just remember that the calculation is in seconds.

I would actually just pre-calculate it to:
time() + 86400
