register_globals issue

I have been searching and searching for an answer to this. I have one server from a hosting company with register_globals set to On... I did a windows installed with Apache 1.3.29 and PHP 4.3.4, and going against the security issues I opted to change register_globals to On on my server as well (windows XP).

I stopped/restarted apache, and tried it on a seperate machine. I have a link suchb as index.php?LoadModule=orders, but $LoadModule never gets passed.

I have such a huge collection of work in PHP and I don't have time to go through and change everything to $_POST/GET etc..

Does anyone:

A) Know why even though register_globals is On... it doesn't work?

Try putting include("$LoadModule"); at the top of the index page. You dont need globals on to pass the variable just use sessions or cookies

Are you sure register_globals is actually on?

Create a page that contains only this:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

View it, and look at the Configuration / PHP Core table, the register_globals line.

That was an awesome idea... I checked phpinfo and register_globals shows that it is turned OFF, even though I saved php.ini with it marked on. I have restarted Apache etc... what could I be missing?

In the first table in phpinfo, it lists where the php.ini file is. Make sure that matches the file you're actually editing. Also, make sure there is no .htaccess file overriding the setting (unlikely but check anyway).

If all else fails, consider [man]import_request_variables/man and/or [man]extract/man to implement register_globals functionality yourself.

It is looking for it in the wrong place, how do I change where it is looking for it?

It says C:\WINDOWS. Should I just move php.ini to that directory?
