Remembring fields in forms when moving back

Little problem I have come accros.

All the sites I have built, when a user submits a form, then next page will check that all fields are filled in correctely. If they are not, then I provide a link back to go and correct it. However when going back to the form all the information has disapeared, and must be typed out again.

A lot of other sites, the information is still in the form. How can I get around this problem? The only way I can think of is to pass the varaiables back to the form page, or use javascrip on the first page to check this. Anyone know how to get around this?

Place the form into a function, then use VALUE attribute of the element tag to refill the value

echo "<input type=\"text\" name=\"fname\" value=\"$FIRSTNAME\">";

Use the globals function to pass the values into the function

function show_form()
{
global $FIRSTNAME, $LASTNAME;

echo "<input type=\"text\" name=\"fname\" value=\"$FIRSTNAME\"><br>
<input type=\"text\" name=\"lname\" value=\"$LASTNAME\">";

}

Then run your check and call the function as needed to reshow the form
