Logging out users

Hi all,
I need to keep login and logout times of members in the database as well as I need to log out member right after he leaves the particular page. And this is the problem - what if a member doesn't log out the regular way - using the Log Out button, but instead just closes the browser window? How do I log him out and write logout time in the DB?

I ran into a very similar problem on another project. I solved (if you can even call it that), but having the onunload even in the body tag call a logout page/script to log out of the area. But nothing is perfect, so I let another person login with same id/pass if first person have been idle over 30 mins.
