Can't use Sendmail under Window2000

Can't use Sendmail-------

I have installed with a free downloaded sofeware to automatic installed the APACHE+PHP(433)+MYSQL to my win2000 sp4. But I can't use sendmail or mail(). I found it seems no sendmail related files in the directory. How to install it? In the php.ini, the path of sendmail should point to where? Or actually, the version did not install the sendmail. If it is the case, how to send email? To use imap function? I don't know this setup too. Pls help for urgent, thanks.

The case is, I want to make a php page that to confirm the members' applications by sending the email to the applicants for their confirmations ( in HTML format, not in text format). Any suggestions?

You can use MS's SMTP server to send out mail. In your php.ini file, scroll down to the [mail function] section and add the IP (or hostname) of your mailserver (if it is the same as the webserver, then just add 127.0.0.1). That should work.

What do you mean by MS's SMTP, does it shipped with the MS window 2k or I need to download and install?

The php.ini now is like this:

As far as I know, localhost is the same as 127.0.0.1 in my computer,
the [e-mail] is default setting. (Actually, I didn't change any original settings about mail function), then what is the change that you suggest?

Change the "SMTP=..." line.

I have changed to 127.0.0.1, but still can't work!

I think the problem should be to install the sendmail, as I mentioned, I didn't find any sendmail or mail extension or dll files on the Apache directory and any directory.

Pls help.

You need to change the smtp line, to a smtp server, feks. the one provided by your ISP
