understanding Reg expressions in php

Hallo,

I have some troubles to make work regular expressions using php ereg function.

using someting like:

^{([a-zA-Z0-x82\x85\x8A\x8D\x95\x97]+)[} -._]?([a-zA-Z0-9-èòàéìù]+)$

is good for my javascript code

but is seems not good for php

so I have tryed with:

^{([a-zA-Z0-9]+)[} -._]?([a-zA-Z0-9-\x82\x85\x8A\x8D\x95\x97]+)$

but nothing changes: I cannot type letters like à è ì ù ò

What could be wrong ?

The problems seems that my php is unable to detect letters like èòàéìù and ASCII hexadecimal or octal chars too.

Who could help me ?!

\x8D etc., won't work if you're regexps are in single-quoted strings, for example.

Do you mean in this way ?

ereg('/^{([a-zA-Z0-9\x82\x85\x8A\x8D\x95\x97]+)[} -._]?([a-zA-Z0-9-\x82\x85\x8A\x8D\x95\x97]+)$/', $word))

It is not working in this way :-(
