setting up page redirection

I am working on a membership system, so far so good.
but i am not sure how to get the page redirection working correctly. Some pages are protected and are not allowed to be viewed by guests, so the user must login first. Now if a user forgets to login he/she is prompted to login before they can view that page.

I can't seem to figure the sessions out right so that it redirects the user after they have logged in, back to the link/page they wanted to access before being promted to login.

why not just add authentication to every page?

Then have the login script just reload the page by using an if-else statement to header to $_SERVER["PHP_SELF"].
