That sounds weird. I've heard of spontaneous combustion, but spontaneous explosion is a new one to me.

I remember seeing a video years ago, downloaded off the net, in which a dead whale was intentionally exploded. The carcass washed ashore, and the authorities didn't know what else to do, so they put a whole bunch of explosives near and around it and blew it up. They tried to aim the explosion so most of the mass would be blown out to sea, but it didn't work so well. The result was like rain, but with little bits of whale.

It's probably still out on the net somewhere.
