getting javascript into php for stuff

i know i shouldn't post this, but i can't find any good info on this via the search...

what i'm trying to do is pass a javascript variable from one page to another so a user can preview their work...

however, the javascript variable needs to be processed before output as it does a range of little things when it is ultimately saved...

so, i'm not sure how to do this...

i thought it would be as simple as this...

$newresponse=?><script language='javascript'>var theVar = opener.document.form1.response.value; document.write(theVar);</script><?

but i'm getting a parse error (i'm exiting php to get javascript to write the value...i'm not really sure what i should be trying to do...and i'm not the best with javascript...

any tips?

Hmm. Put the variable into the URL using Javascript. Then PHP can access it in the $GET or $POST arrays (depending on how things work). Do the processing, then write the variable into the next page. Or am I missing something here?

can't do that...the variable could easily be three paragraphs long...i don't think passing that much via the url is prudent...

or am i wrong?

Use a form POST to submit the data then.
