Validating Personal Identification Number (PIN)

I have no idea if this is the right forum, but I've got to start somewhere 🙂

Well since I work in a company with multinational customers, my employer have assigned me to build a PHP script that can validate foreign personal identification numbers. Since I'm located in Norway, it'll mostly be various european PIN's, but that doesn't really matter. My problem is that I cannot find any information anywhere on the net about how to validate PIN's from any country. Is this info "classified" or something?

I hope someone here have done something similar before, and can at least point me in the right direction. I'm really lost right now :-|

With a PIN you mean personal identification numbers?
Like the sosical security id in the us?

And what do you mean by validation - is it to validate a correct syntax, or to validate that the person is who he claims he is?

As stated in the subject, by PIN I mean Personal Identification Number. And yes, in some countries (US?) I think it's also called Social Security Number 🙂

In most countries (as in Norway for instance) this is a number stating when you're born, what sex you are and a control number. By validate I mean check age and sex against the controlnumber.

ahh... Social security numbers (as known here in the USA).

Trick is there's not too much you can do with them in terms of validation. You can identify some info of where and when it was registered, but that appears to be about it. Even checking for correctness seems rather limited with all zeros being invalid and any first 3 digit sequence over 770.

You'll need to look up the rules for each countries own PIN or soc. number...
