DSN Data Format Error

Hi!

Though i'm not the coder of the next few lines of PHP, probably someone will benefit from it.

I've been having trouble with Redhat 9 (or any other equivelant box) sending mails to external email adresses for quite some time.
Linux complains about the 'Data format error'.

I found this piece of code (so for the record, it's not mine) and it helped me out.

If you have the DSN Data format error on your Linux box, try this:

$to6=$email;
$subject6="Subject";
$sentbygs = "[e-mail]";

$mailheaders = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
$mailheaders .= "Content-type: text/HTML; charset=ISO-8859-1\r\n";
$mailheaders .= "From: you <[e-mail]>\r\n";
$subject6=stripslashes($subject6);
@mail("$to6", $subject6, stripslashes($msg5), $mailheaders, "-f$sentbygs");

it worked for me, i've seen a lot of people struggling with it, hope this helps. I tried, i tested it on Redhat 9, it works.

That code is basically submitting the Email as a HTML file, i believe before you didnt have a Mime type for the email you were sending, some external Mail Servers require that there are mime type headers

I've always used headers with 'mime' and 'content type', though the @mail construction is different from what i used to have.

the "$to6" variable has quotes, i never had that, and the -f option is a sendmail parameter if i'm correct, have to read about those things more!

Anyway, the combination seems to work. It's just a bit harder to get all this to work on a Linux box (well, if you're not that much of Linux wiz🙂)

Also, the content type could be just 'text' as well.

I don't know if you have ever encountered this problem, i did.
And when i did, i googled it and found out that it's a common problem with many 'solutions' created by many people, and i guess this is one of them.
