fwrite not working?

It won't write...I'm confused! I had to use the FTP because I'm going through a firewall.

fwrite is here to write to a local file, not to write to a file on a ftp server. So you have to create and fill the file firstly, then you can put it to a ftp server.

ftp_put is for transfering local file to a ftp server.

And main reason is that you are opening your file in READ mode ( fopen($file_name,'r'), not in WRITE mode.

How do I create and fill the file first? I've tried fopen, but it always gave me "file status" errors, and not being able to connect.

With the code above, while changing "r" to "w", I get these errors.

You have to have propper rights to create files in the directory.

firstly you have to fopen it
then fwrite or fputs
then fclose

then ftp_*

But whenever I fopen anything, it gives me "permissions" problems, which is why I'm trying to do this. I read this on php.net

If you are connecting to your ftp server through a router doing NAT (such as the Zyxel 128L prestige router/bridge we are using) by doing say an <? fopen("ftp://ftpusername:ftppassword@ftpserver/".$file_name, "w") ?>, then this could fail. You will get php_hostconnect connection failed error. This is because <?fopen() ?>function uses a passive ftp connection which the Zyxel router does not support, even though your ftp server may be configured to allow the passive connections which php <?fopen?> function is using. Note that $file_name is the file we want to ftp to the remote server eg could be file.txt.

Thus an alternative would be to do create the file you want in a local directory of your machine or in the webserver where your php files reside eg use <?fwrite()?> as documented in the manual. Once you have the $file_name you want to ftp created, do the following:

The problem is, that you really don't have a permissions to write into a directory on your local web server. Check this first please. Take into an account that your php pages are executed under some unprivileged user probably named nobody if it is on linux. Then the user nobody must have rights to write (create file) in the directory where your script resides or probably in the higher directory, because you are trying to open file ../Cali.php (do you realy want to create this file ?)

Okay....now I'm basically completely stumped and have given up on the way I was going to do it before. Is there anyway I can find code to take content from one file and create/write it into a new file with the filename of a given variable? This fopen business just isn't working anymore...
