MySQL!!!

Hi again,
Im trying to get MySQL running on Windows 2000. I have it installed in c:\mysql. What do I do from here????

I went to install it as a service - dont really understand what this does???
Unfortunately I cannot run mySQL because an error says mysql2/bin/mysqld-nt already exists.

I looked in Services in the Control Panel and MySQL path to executable is C:\MYSQL2\BIN\MYSQLD-NT.
I don't want this path as I have C:\MySQL...
I tried to change this in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environmental Variables - Path. But no success!!

Please, please help me out here..

Instructions:

1) Uninstall ALL versions of MySQL
2) Restart (it is windows after all...)
3) Reinstall MySQL to c:\mysql as a service
4) Look at the version of PHP you have - if it is <PHP 5 the support for MySQL is inbuilt - if it is 5.0 or greater - look at the thread at the top of this forum.
5) Obtain PHPMyAdmin - this will help configure the MySQL without using the command line.
6) Find config.inc.php and put in the absolute URL for your installation of PHPMyAdmin - usually http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin
7) In the username and password fields for server 1 a little lower down, put user as root and leave the password blank
8) Go to http://127.0.0.0/phpmyadmin and browse into MySQL, then users - and you can change the password there for the root.

You should now be able to access the MySQL server.

Your system will still be vulnerable - if using Apache - then place an .htaccess on the directory for phpmyadmin for username and password - there are many tutorials out there for that one.

Should start you off anyway....
