mysql not starting :(

Hello ppl,

today I installed for the first time apache server and services separatly, since now I was using nusphere.

I installed apache 1.3.23 , php 4.3.4 and mysql 4.0.17 .

Apache and php seems to work fine, no errors, but I can't make the mysql service start 🙁

What lines I have to edit to get it working ?

Have a look for a program in the mysql directory (I think it's C:\mysql) called winmysqladmin. run this.

ok, now it seems to start .. I think i needed to restart my computer, anyway now it's working but in phpmyadmin I had some errors, first it was about $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'], I set it like this and the error disapears.

$cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] = 'http://localhost/phpmyadmin/';

than it was a warning that I have the default setings for my mysql server with user root and no pass, I set a password from phpmyadmin, I think from "set permision" there was a user root on local host with no password .. i inserted the password pass .. like I use on all my local sites ... and than the phpmyadmin wont start 🙁 I receive an errro that phpmyadmin could not conect to the mysql server, check the config.inc.php file .

In that tool from mysql I have this valus on my ini setup

Can we start from the begining ??

Firts I will install apache, the default path is C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache than I will install php to this path c:\php and mysql to this path c:\mysql.

I will need to modify the httpd.conf and add at the end of the file 2 lines
LoadModule php4_module c:/php/sapi/php4apache.dll
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

and copy 2 files in apache directory , php4ts.dll and php4apache.dll . I think till here is everything ok.

The problems begin on mysql ... what I must edit for a good configuration of mysql ? and how can I set the password for mysql, All my local sites are using user: root and pass: pass ..

The install files of php and mysql are very large , it's very much information to read till you figure aout that you needed to add a line and to copy 2 files ... can somebody quide me to finish this instalation ???

Have you thought about using FoxServ?

I downloaded fox serv , now I need to reinstal my windows .. or search in reg's of windows for some entrys about apache and mysql because it's not working and I'm very sure that fox serv is not working because of my past instalations of apache/php/mysql.

Anyway, the foxserv is instaling apache and mysql as service?? , because that's what i like on separate instalations , all the servers are running in background as services .. and I don't ned to start anything, only IE or opera and type localhost.

Why can there be an install file for a standard instalations , because the php install.txt has houndreds of lines maibe more.. and all i needed from there was to read max 10 lines .. copy those files to appache directory, edit httpd.conf .. add 2 lines ..

My big problem is mysql .... how can I set the password for it .. because all my sites gave me this error cannot conect to localhost

Can somebody tell me what I should do after instaling mysql ??

PS. if not probably I will try to install foxserv or fastwork2.0.6
