phpmyadmin for more than one db

hello,
i am just starting out into the murky world of databases and need some very simple questions answering.
i have installed php, apache and mysql on my machine for writing and testing locally. i also have a mysql database set up for me with a remote host.
to configure phpmyadmin for both local and remote, would i have to install it in both root folders???
...and is it just the path to phpmyadmin and the user, password and host lines in the 'config.inc.php that require altering??

and one more thing, if anyone knows of any good tutorials/books etc. for the ABSOLUTE novice, could you please post them.

phpmyadmin needs to be installed in your htdocs folder in apache (or a subfolder) for it to work. Now, configuring it is another matter.

yes, you can configure phpmyadmin to connect to different mysql servers....in fact, I believe the manual tells you how.
