Hi, I have been asked to look at open source PHP based bulletin boards. There seems to be tons of them around but other than PHP BB is there other leaders in this field that I should be focusing on.
Thanks alv
Invision Board and vBulletin are some good forums (but you have to pay for a license....remember that open source doesn't always mean free๐ ๐
Erm.. open source DOES mean free. I'd just like to draw your attention to this page.
@: have you tried YABBSE?
[edit]Good call. That'll teach me not to read the whole thread. Again.[/edit]
When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. --quoted from the page.
I was talking about price....hence, open source does not mean it is $$free$$
[edit]I didn't mention phpbb because alv already said that[/edit]
try hotscripts.com the first 2pages has some widely used Forums for PHP
Mainly
vB PHPBB InvisionBoard Yabbse Phorum
The rest ive never heard of
I tend to lean toward yabb. They're mods and support are great.
Isn't it the easiest one to skin as well?
[edit]well, when I say skin, i mean to change the design rather than provide skins for it...[/edit]
yeah, there's also a lot of smilie sets to choose from (if you need that). I think it's probably the best (yabbse and yabb both) out there.
Have you had a look at Simple machines?
No, I just like yabb. But, who am I?
Unfortunately, simple machines isn't out yet, except in betas for charter members. From looking on their thread, yabbse is the predecessor to simple machines fyi.
I know it is. Thats why I asked if you'd looked (rather than tried) it.
