Uploading a socket function?

I was wondering if file uploading client side (via website) is a socket function. Mainly beucase since about 4 am this morning I have been trying to get a script that will upload an image to the server from the local machine.

Now, I have tried downloading and trying about 30 people's scripts and none work. I have everything set to CHMOD 777 and all.

Why I can not run functions mail() and phpinfo()?

For security reasons those functions and all sockets functions are disabled. Please do not use it in your PHP programs.

I also found out that this server runs PHP4.06 or something. It is www.ionichost.com AKA www.coolfreepages.com

I know, I know, free way is not the best way, but hey. I am cheap. They gave me PHP and a MySQL DB to work with so I said hell yeah.

Can anyone help me out on this. I can make the submission form and have to go to the next page, but 95% of the time if the OR DIE message is File Not Found, then I get it, the other 5% of the time, I get a blank screen. No images anywhere on the server.

Meaning

/users/ionichost.com/kudose

right? then if I want to upload to a certain directory I would just add /cars after kudose. or am I completely off base here. Please help.

I use this after already successfully connected to my database to upload the file and save the file name with a timestamp prepended and space replaced with underscores. Then I put the old filename and the "SafeFilename" into the database for reference. Hope it helps:

Yeah, you lost me.

I just want a little form that says browse. Then click submit, and boom, it's on the server. Dont need it in the DB or anything like that. Dont need there to be anything secure about it. Cause I will be the only one who knows the URL, or I could PW protect the URL, or I could just not care since it isnt going to be MY auto dealership website. ::lol::

Receiving an uploaded file is not a socket function but part of a post request. Technically, you could parse the raw headers and pull the file(s) out of there (but PHP gives you a couple functions which make this process unnecessary). Its possible the file size limit has been set really low or even disabled.

Without phpinfo(), its hard to say what they did. You may have to email them to find out.

I have emailed them. No response yet. I have 50 megs of space. I know that you can have phpnuke and UBB on thier servers and those allow you to upload avatars so I know it is possible to upload files. I am just not seeing why it wont let me do it.
