Loading html into a php script

I wanna make a script that downloads particular web pages, extracts certain information from them, and emails that info to me. But I can't figure out how you download a page into a php variable? Pretty simple, thats about the sum of my question. Thanks.

check out the fopen() function:

then it's a matter of finding a parser function you like or just stepping through trough the file line by line looking for what you want using strpos() and stuff.

then you want the mail() function
to mail the info to you:

Pinching other people's content is generaly frowned upon, so unless you have the permission of the site you're going to be gleening the information from I would suggest against it. You may wind up with a proficient coder out to get you. However, assuming this is a completely inocent post you can open a remote file using the file() or fopen() commands, have a check in the php manual at php.net
