PHP Errors

When someone tries to enter their account on my site and they provide the wrong username/password combination there seems to be some php errors appearing. My own custom message appears, but everything is shifted down the page a little, signalling that some error is there. The problem is that the error doesn't actually print to the screen..I just know it/they're there because the other stuff has been moved down. Any ideas?

The error-reporting in php.ini is probably set to logging, and won't print publicly. Have you checked your custom message for any errors or things like the " and '

You could also try to echo the error message as htmlspecialchars() to see if it still fails.

I've checked my custom messages and there's nothing wrong with them. I still think it's errors being reported to the screen, just not made visible. The functionality of working ok, so I'm trying to find a way to turn off the errors, keeping in mind that I can't directly change the ini file itself, so I'd have to have code to override it.

So what does the generated HTML source look like? For the display to be different in the two situations, the source must be different.
To override PHP's error messages use @, as in "@some_function/i", but you need to know where those error messages are coming from for that, and by then you'll probably know enough to fix them.

I'll have to re-examine the html source code in the two situations, but I think they're identical. If there are some php errors being generated and for some reason they aren't being made visible, it wouldn't change the html, would it? As far as I know, php code isn't reflected in html.
