Producing PHP File!

Hey guys,

I am almost completed with my website, and just need one more thing. I have a database with tables: USERS, WISHES, and VISUAL. USERS contains user info, WISHES contains a set of 10 wishes, VISUAL contains the modified visual elements of a website (meaning they can change certain font colors, sizes, etc.). Now, I need to weave this all together with their own website. People come to my website, sign up, log in, change wishes and visual elements...and the final product is their own website (http://www.forexample.com/<username goes here>/index.php).

How would I have PHP produce a user website immediately after they register, that they can later modify (I have already taken care of the modifying section, and just need help producing a PHP file).

use the fopen and fwrite php functions and create php files for them. I dont know if this is what you want but i have done things like this to create variable files before. Or if you just want them to change certian element within a page you could simply code up 1 file that dynamicly reads changes out of a DB. You can do things like aliaising directorys with Apache and make them read form one file but seem to be in another. Basicly it will all depend on your knowledge of php / apache / db.

Is there anyway I can do it like xanga...when you type in www.xanga.com/idiot ... it redirects you to http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=idiot

That is a IIS version of a Alias in apache. You would need to be in controll of your webserver to change that sort of thing. As i doubt many providers would wana change it for u.

ScriptAliasMatch ^{\/[club]{4,4}\/$*} /www/clubsite/html/club/index

that above example simply grabs the a url like www.clubsite.com/club/<anythinghere>

and spits it to the index.html file. That file then process it like you example. I have used that sort of thing several times.

okay, sorry, I'm fairly new to this...

So, let's say I have a user on my site named 'frood', is there any way to call all the information from his database to yield on one .php document?

So, if you don't understand what I just said (I don't quite understand it either), let me try to go through a step-by-step process:

1) frood signs up, with his name, city, state, blah

2) frood signs in, changes his wishes, and changes the font color and welcome text of his web site (stored in the WISHES and VISUAL tables)

3) frood visits www.forexample.com/frood and sees his page, with the visual elements he chose, in front of him!

So my question is, is there any way possible for me to create his webpage without actually creating a /frood directory on my server? I am not so sure if my question is clear, but if you need clarification, please just ask!

Oh, for xanga, they don't have a directory with a .aspx document for everybody, right? They just weave their information from the database into a template document. I HAVE THE TEMPLATE, I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

Ok that does clarify it. But the only way i know of doing it is by actually fidling with the webserver settings like i gave in my previous statement.
Since you cant do that you will need to have a dir made for each user (this gets really messy i know) and inside that dir simple create an include inside your index.php file.

?>

This will allow you to have one template file that will work for every user( since it will just include the actual file that draws all the information from your D😎. It isnt the nicest way of doing it but still allows any changes you make to effect everyone.

oh and to work out whos info to pull out you just need to use the php _$SERVER variables. SCRIPT_NAME or something will show you the path they are requesting and frood should be a shortname filed in your DB that you match it. so a combination of exploding SCRIPT_NAME and matching the corect array string to your DB then allows yuou to pull the info need form the DB.
