Hi guys, our website has now progressed to a level where we feel a dedicated server is warranted. Unfortunaltey, due to our current location we only have access to a nasty 38k dial-up connection (yes, using the net is soooo painful).
We need to transfer our current website, and MySQL database to this new server, but cannot do this via our connection (so using mysqlfront to transfer is not an option) so we need to transfer directly from server to server. We have shell access to the co-hosted server, and full root access on the new server.
Can I just confirm my understanding of how we will be able to do this, maybe someone will have a more efficent method.
For the web content, I guess I can use cuteFTP to setup a server to server transfer, and failing that log on to the new server and use the ftp client from the shell to transfer over the files.
For the database, I assume I have to create an SQL dump file of the current database, FTP it over to the new server and load it on to the new database. Is there a more efficent way to do this? What is the chance of having errors in the data occur with this transfer?
Many Thanks,
Justin Fielding,
