Search Engine!!

Hi all,
I wish to create a basic search engine within my site. I want to enable the user to enter a keyword, and on click 'search' the results will be returned.
Does anyone know how I can do this??

A lot of this depends on how your site stores its content.

It is quite trivial to create a search function for a certain field in a database; it's a tad more complex to have the function search the entire datasbase and come up with accurate answers.

To do it with static HTML files is tougher. Perhaps enough so that you could understand why Larry and Sergey are now millionaires...but I can't say for sure, as I'm not Larry nor Sergey 😃

I dont need to be able to search the database - just my web pages!

I'm a not sure, but I don't think thats possible.

But I think google offers a service that lets you search through your webpages.

No, it's not trivial nor easy.

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you can't adapt something like the Google API to your site, and don't wish to use other of the various web-based search tools that are already extant, you're going to have a long project ahead of you.

You might see if anything in this ilk interests your at sourceforge, and join that project....
