Why won't this simple IF statement work?

Just wanting to check if $_COOKIE["type"] is equal to "Beginner" or "Advanced", but it's allowing any "type" to pass through.

if ($_COOKIE["type"] == ('Advanced' || 'Beginner')){

Is this is a proper way to check multiple conditions in one statement?

they cant be in the same bit, try this: -

if ($COOKIE["type"] == 'Advanced' || $COOKIE["type"] == 'Beginner')){
