upgrade to 4.3 on SuSe 8.1

I want to upgrade my PHP to 4.3 to take advantage of the built in pear libraries and to make sure it's the same version as my host. But php.net only has source, and the suse update program yast only has version 4.2.2. WhadoIdo?

I myself have installed gcc and make using yast. I like to compile programs myself rather than using someone else's binaries 😉

So get GCC(or other c-compiler) and make with yast. Download the PHP-source package what you like and compile the damn thing 🙂 If I remember correctly, there are quite nice options when compiling the source..

probably a "Stupid Question(tm)" but how on earth do you "make" with yast - I can't find anything about it in the manual...

Back to the question... No, I meant that you go fetch all GCC and make programs with yast,install them and then install php from shell using PHP's own install instructions. Suse doesnt install gcc or Make by default when installing OS itself.

thought so!! I'm pretty much converted to Mac OSX as my main OS, but I still watch Amiga developments with interest.

aah. I misunderstood! I'm relatively new to Linux stuff, and didn't realise make was the name of an app! Will give that a shot.
