Pear AutoExecute

I'm using pear's autoexecute facility to make life a little easier

I know that you need to put a sting as the where clause when doing DB_AUTOQUERY_UPDATE. My question is this how do you put in the string where say the value you want to use in the where clause is in a var.

I have tried

"'id' = '$var'"

but that does not work

All the examples i have seen have had the value in $var hardcoded and that is not an option for me

If anyone has any good suggestions then let me know
