Virus removal...

arrgg, I have this virus on my computer, cnshook.dll, my virus program says its located at C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\CnsHook.dll and when my virus program tries to delete it, it fails! When I try looking in Downloaded Program Files I don't see any such file! If I try using windows find files thing, it doesn't find it anywhere on my computer! Yet my virus scan program says its there! How can I get rid of this annoy liitle bugger? :mad:

Ah crap! That is one heck of alot crap to do! I wish I could meet the people that make this crap!

Agh, that find thing is just getting stupider with every revision. I ask it to find files I know bloody well exist (I'm looking right at them in another window), but does it find them? Nooo....

download process explorer from sysinternals.com, kill the thread using the dll, search the the dll in dos delete voila

I tried doing that before, nothing showed up in the folder, but I decided to try again, and there it was(guess I looked in the wrong folder the first time(I know, I'm quite slow)), couldn't delete it, so I booted into dos and killed the little bugger! 🙂

Viruses screw around with Windows but not DOS, that's why methinks...me is not sure...

more like dos soesn't check for thread's dependancies on certain files i'd think.. and of course viruses affect dos, just no one writes those anymore :p

The little fscker is loaded by Windows, so a relatively "clean boot" into DOS mode and a manual "del c:\windows\system\fscking.exe" can work wonders.

Note that I said can....

Every machine I see with some blasted virus or adware/spyware issue, causes me to thank God for FBSD!!!
