opendir() problem: No such file or directory

Hi! While trying to open a directory with opendir($dir) (where $dir = "start" and there is a directory called "start") I get an error message saying

Warning: opendir(scout): failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/kyrkan-devel/admfile.php on line 57

However, the directory does exist and file_exists($dir) returns true. Also, I've made sure that the script and the directory have the same users and groups. Both users and groups have read, write and execute permissions, while "others" have none.

try using $dir = "./start"

when you ref a directory in unix, there are certain ways of getting there - if you are passing an absolute pathname, start it with a /

eg /var/www/html/kyrkan-devel/admfile.php

this starts from the root

If you are referencing relative to your current working directory (CWD) use a ./

eg ./start

I tested with the ./ and it still wouldn't work, but if I typed the whole path, all the way from /var/www/..." to my $dir, it worked! I found it a little strange though that ./ wouldn't work. Thanks for your help!

New problem:

Warning: fopen(./scout/NAGOT.HTM): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/kyrkan-devel/admfile.php on line 85

The directory "scout" does exist and so does "NAGOT.HTM".

I can open the file if I type "/var/www/[...]/NAGOT.HTM", but then PHP refuses to save the file! No error message or anything, fwrite just returns flase.

Apache owns ALL the files and directories and has ALL the permissions, so that is not what is causing the problem.

After alot of time testing and failing, I discovered that chdir() solved the problem.
