more "advanced" query help

i always just use simple sql query, but was wondering how to make more advanced querys.

Lets say i have 2 tables datatable and primarytable and wants to insert a row into primarytable containing both new data and part of datatable, lets say field Msg and bla2 where ID=4.

primarytable(ID, newdata, fieldmsg, fieldbla2, x1,x2,x3)
1, qwerty, lalalalalala, yada, 1,2,3
2, ytrewq, textmsg, dasd, 3,2,1

datatable (ID, Msg, Bla1, Bla2)
1, lalalalalala, 1, yada
2, textmsg, 5, dasd
3, imnotamsg, 345, asd
4, yesyouare, 76, greer
5, shutupbothofyou, 34, gerrge

can it be made in 1 insert query, and how ?

Sure, just wrap your literals in single quotes, like this:

INSERT INTO primarytable
  SELECT 'literal_ID' AS ID,
         'literal_newdata' AS newdata,
         Msg AS fieldmsg,
         Bla2 AS fieldbla2,
         'literal_x1' AS x1,
         'literal_x2' AS x2,
         'literal_x3' AS x3,
    FROM datatable
   WHERE ID = 4

Thanks, not bad, took a little bit of word, but that was mainly because i had type a fieldname wrong 🙂

how about if you have some data and want to insert it in to 2 different tables at once.

any other usefull sql queryies are welcome
