forms won't submit when there's too much data

i posted earlier about a problem with my forms and https, but i think i discovered a different problem.

is there a setting that would make my forms not submit if a lot of information is contained in them?

if i submit one of my forms after entering in very little information, it always passes error checking and is fine.

if i submit it after entering a lot of text into one of the text areas or input boxes, it reloads the original form, but all fields are empty... it seems like it isn't posting anything if there is too much data.

database fields for sure ahve limits to space but im not quite sure about forms. I would say <textarea> tag would have most room
