Question about PHP 5

Why hve the php people removed mysql support in the PHP 5 release. Took me forever to figure out i had to copy the mysql dll (Windows) to the system32 folder to get it to work.

Just wondering if it will be added back on the final release or if it is gone for good.

MySQL have changed there licence to LGPL if i remember correctly so PHP didnt remove because they wanted they more had to.
