images with PHP

Hi guys

I have a large image file(jpg). Lets say 2560*1920 pixels...

I need to make this image smaller proportionally, lets say 480x360. I need to keep a good quality of the image and I need to output the image in the browser. We had a solution with ASPjpeg where you can specify jpg quaity and interpolation but we want to change to PHP. Is there a good way to "shrink" the images without any loss in PHP.

I have tried with the imagecreatefromjpg and all the different functions but I cannot make it work satisfactory.

I hope anyone can help me with this.

your best bet is using GD, GD2, or i think it's called imagemagik or something.

all of these are image libraries for PHP.

i would still use

imagecreatefromjpeg();
but to resize try using

imagecopyresampled();
