XML, Data Islands and ASP -> PHP

Is it possible to embed XML into HTML like Microsifts Data Islands <xml> tags? Would be using an include be an equivalent? Would there be any additional/modifications of code or XML files needed if it is?

What is the PHP equivalent of this code found on W3Schools:

I know the first block of code is client side, thus won't be able to be done in PHP, but the second block is server side. Follow the links for the example XML and XSL code.

Will the new support for XML in PHP5 allow simple XSLT like the above ASP example, or will it still be necessary to use Saboltron?

I have read the articles regarding Saboltron here, I just want to know if there is a less incumbersome way for XSL transforms with PHP? Although PEAR can be used as well as Saboltron, I must admit I haven't looked any closer at it.

Even links to example code, threads or additional resources will be appreciated.

I've been continuing my research of XML and am now curious if PHP SSI are faster and more efficient onload than XML templates?

Also, are the developers of PHP5 planning on integrating XSL 2.0 and XPath 2.0? I know that neither recommendations are official, but I also know the PHP5 is still in Beta stages, thus more functionality can still be added. If not now, but in future PHP5 releases?

Look, I know that these are fairly generic questions, most only require a yes or no, or a point in the right direction for code examples, articles, ect. I feel like I'm wasting your space continuingly "bumping up" this thread in hopes to find an answer. But I believe that one thread with similar questions is better than several single posts and I have done several searches on this forum and many others before I posted this thread, and I simply can't find any definitive answers.

So please, can someone answer? Thank you.
