Flexible content management

Hello,

I'm trying to break into the world of content management. But I can't seem to find the right solution. All of the Content Management solutions seem to be very predefined as to what you can do with them. The problem I find with them is that they don't allow enough custimization to allow me full control over site layout/appearance. The content is editable but I still want to be able completely control the layout of where the content goes. I'm not afraid of putting somne time into it if I can get a solution that I really like. I want to be able to use this on many different sites. Integrating ease of editing a page, article pages where you can add new articles and auto archives older articles. So I'm looking for a more modular/basic aproach that I can customize rather than a complete "out-of-the-box" web site solution.

Any ideas or if anyone has any links to something like this please point me in the right direction

E107 is very Hackable.

The problem lies in the fact you can only display dynamic content so many ways with out getting some kinds of crazy complex system that nobody will understand.

A lot of CMS are done with Blocks and templates. Where the blocks are like the Top, Left, Center, Right, and Bottom areas of the page. Then with templates you can make the site look like you want it to.

Are you looking for the template approach or are you actually looking for the ability to put Content where on the page you want?

Thanks for your responses. I'm probably looking for something thats not standard template related. But I say that mainly because I havn't seen a template solution that gives you full control over the page. I'm not real sure what the "blocks" is yet. But that's probably what I'm looking for to have a page and then have specific editable content "areas" that I can drop in wherever I want. But for some sites that don't have to be completely unique from others the template aproach might be the best given that the site is still customizable enough to have the cookie cutter look. I want the user to be able to make all site modifications but I don't want the site to look like the standard "plug-in" content sites. If that makes any sense.

I'm going to look into the E107, Xoops, Druple, and typo3 solutions.
