Apache server alternative?

Can you suggest an alternative to Apache? Dont get me wrong.. i love apache! The thing is, for years i've been making flash based applications which requires a php interpretor, which in turn requires apache webserver, and ofcourse mysql server. .. my flashbased appllication is around 1.3MB... the whole deployed system is over 20MB! lolz

Now i was thinking, "DO I REALLY NEED ALL THE BULK OF APACHE?"

I mean, it's a huge server... i just need a few things from a server.. so i think i really dont need all the other features (which i really cant define ) of it.

So i was hoping you guys could suggest an alternative webserver for desktop applications only.. (networkable apps )

One of an example is this Internet Cafe software I made.

Also, in addition to your suggestion, can you please kindly tell me a abit of what's missing in your suggested webserver compared to apache? I just wana make sure I'm not gona miss anything critical.

If your thinking Apache is bulky take a look at IIS it may seem really small. But look at what happens behind the scenes is a much different story. I agree there are some pointless modules for apache however to others they are needed for what they require.

The next best would be Xitami however its not nearly as widely used as Apache and you may encounter trouble with it.

just to jump in, i prefer the look of thttpd and am going to experiment with it sometime soon...

If I was building a production server on windows, I'd choose Xitami (it doesn't run on unix, it's native Windows only I believe) because it's faster under parallel load than thttpd seemed to be for me.

thttpd is pretty good, but didn't seem to handle parallel php requests many moons ago when I tested it. It may have grown up a bit since then.

So, if it's not gonna handle hundreds of simo users, thttpd is nice, super small and easy to set up.
