include path

-Could anyone tell me what's wrong with these settings: $includedir = "/data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include:./jpcache";
- I don't understand the ":." bit, copied and pasted from my server's conf, and keep getting this:

Warning: Unable to access /data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include:./jpcache in /data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/html/index.htm on line 80

Fatal error: Failed opening required '/data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include:./jpcache' (include_path='/data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include:./') in /data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/html/index.htm on line 80

Line 80 being this :<? $cachetimeout=30; require "/data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include:./jpcache"; ?>

is a list of two directories
/data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include
and
/jpcache

Thanks for the explanations about ":." . I suppressed this bit from the path and now I get this:

Fatal error: input in flex scanner failed in /data/www/e/r/r-editions.com/php-include/jpcache on line 1
