[Resolved] Netscape 7 in localhost mode

I've just installed Netscape 7.1 and php pages that run in IE5.5 and NN4.7 loally no longer run. I get a pop window that wants to know which application to run for the php file. ASP files run ok when PWS is turned on and the php files execute locally when I'm online but not when I'm offline.

In the Preferences/advanced section I have 'direct connection to the internet' checked and 'No proxy for:' contains localhost, 127.0.0.1

If your clicking on the files in windows file manager - your not pulling via http (web server). Am assuming that you are using http://127.0.0.1.

Try doing a winipcfg, or an ipconfig and using your real IP address instead of the localhost.

Or pull the pages up in IE succesfully, and cut and paste the URL into Netscape.

Another one to do is modify your hosts file on your machine and create your own version of a domain name and have it point to your web server. That way you can stuill be online and do a www.whatever.com and pull the files from your local PWS.

If your a windows guy, get easyPHP. Its absolutely the best one click install PHP/MYSQL/Apache thing I have ever seen. Works great and does a flawless install on a windows box. Am using it on XP and have not found a glitch yet. Great for local development.

Yes I am a windows guy, I run w98SE and my PHP/apache server/mysql installation is all up and running perfectly (as far as I can see anyway).

I was typing in http://localhost/whatever in the URL bar, html and ASP pages all worked fine but php ones wouldn't.

I ran ipconfig, got the ip address of my ethernet adaptor, added that to the 'No proxy for:' list and it now works.
