thecomputersite.com - I just finished uploading it yesterday and have begun to write tutorials for it. I'm just looking for some people to view it really, perhaps register on the forums! 😛

Anyway, I'm going to write several more articles this week for PHP to finish of the first 5 part tutorial on the basics of PHP. 🙂

Yeah, down the bottom. As I said above, will indeed correct, however a must say, its a learning point for me... never new that you did <table width="100%"/></table>... I always used to do <table width="100%"></table>

The second way is the correct way.

Quick explanation: XHTML needs to have closing tags. Some items (like <img>, <br>, <input>) don't have closing tags, so thats when you use <br /> (for example)

Great! Help much appreciated. I always use closing tags on the <br/> but never on the <img>. Never twigged. 🙂

Your "site of the week" and "virus warning" each appear twice. Any reason for duplicating them?

As far as design, I'll give you credit for being one of the few who post their sites for review with a Doctype. Though, yes, the HTML isn't valid, it's a step in the right direction. Might I suggest a standard though. You have some tags in upper case, some in lower, some XHTML comliant (<br /> tags), and some not. Valid or not, it's best to pick some kind of standard and stick with it.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. Appreciate all the comments so far. Admittadley the standard isn't particularly great as it doesn't all comply and some of the cases are different. Unfortunately this is down to the advertising code that is inserted.

I'm interested however as to which page is showing two of site of the week and virus warnings... from what I can see, they only show once.

hehe, I know what it is... you're using IE, aren't you? Cos in IE they only appear once each, but in firefox (which I'm assuming Shryku has) they each appear twice...

And don't say that you can't be bothered to deal with people who don't use IE (like some other guy did) for two reasons:

You'll get slated.
If you're offering advice to the Net, then make sure everyone on the net sees things the same way.

I wasn't going to say that... however I didn't know Firefox existed. 🙂

Still, if I can get the HTML Transitional done, it'll work I presume. Is there a stricter version that should work with all browsers?

Of course there is a stricter one: it's called XHTML Strict 😃

You keep mentioning the advertising code that you can't touch

Two things:

1) Why are you using code you're not allowed to modify
2) Have you contacted them and said, hey if I make your output xhtml compliant but touch nothing else is that okay with you?

Hosted sites is a pop-up I hate pop-ups, it also uses javascript which can be turned off by the user. There is no garentee that this will work as you want it to.

You're using tables for layout. This is not recommended you should use div tags with CSS.

Also the design is a little boxy.

Hi - thanks for the comments. The design was purposely boxy actually 🙂 ... simplicity and quickness I decided may make the site a little more user friendly and quick to load.

very good layout, but i also get the duplication thing (Mozilla on Win2k). (I'm not looking at the code)
